And I’ve used external adjustable scopes with medium diameter (0.0015”) crosshairs, which I feel is a little large for target shooting but will work fine for silhouettes. They are too fine for general use and silhouette competition, but they are good for shooting paper at long distances. I have a Unertl Ultra Varmint 12X with very fine crosshairs, so fine that without the small center dot it’s easy to lose the crosshairs in the background image.

There are scopes with even ultra fine crosshairs. I've looked through the DZ Arms scopes and the crosshairs seem to be slightly larger (maybe 0.001" ?), but they are etched on glass rather than wires as are the reticles in the MVA scopes. My Fecker scopes use the 0.0005" fine wire. There are sources of 0.001" wire (in-between the fine & medium).

For silhouette competition, either will work but I prefer the fine wire.

Since there seems to be typos (adding or substracting zeros) when reporting wire sizes, 0.0015" wire is considered to be medium, 0.0005" is fine. In addition to Woody's comments, there's some good suggestions there if readers here would like to try their hand at it.
